O início de nossa história tem data, 10 de setembro de 1940, local, Igreja Presbiteriana Unida de São Paulo (onde ocorreu a organização da JMN).No “Boletim da Junta de Missões Nacionais da Igreja Cristã Presbiteriana do Brasil – Ano I – Num. 1 – Maio de 1946″, encontramos a seguinte informação “A estatística abaixo, referente ao ano passado (1945), dará, em números, uma idéia do progresso alcançado: 10 Campos, 9 Ministros, inclusive o Secretário Executivo (Rev. José Carlos Nogueira); 1 Igreja, 2 Congregações Presbiteriais, 104 Pontos de Pregação; 678 Membros Comungantes; 639 Não Comungantes; 33 E. Dominicais, com 1529 alunos; 13 Sociedades Femininas, com 185 sócias; 4 Uniões da Mocidade, com 79 sócios; 4 Ligas Juvenis, com 92 sócios; ...″Uma testemunha do envio do primeiro missionário da JMN, é a irmã Leonilda Olivetti Steffen (viúva do Rev. Walter Steffen 1917-1999). Esta querida irmã estava presente no culto em que o licenciado Camilo Fernandes Costa foi comissionado para o trabalho em Tanabi-SP, ela se lembra que o hino entoado pela igreja foi “Quero ser um vaso de bênção” e, na sua opinião, esta é a melhor definição da JMN: “Um vaso de bênção escolhido de Deus, para as novas levar aos perdidos”.O trabalho deste vaso de bênção é relatado em dois bons livros: a “História da Igreja Presbiteriana do Brasil” – Vol. II, do Rev. Júlio Andrade Ferreira (CEP – SP) e “A Younger Church in Search of Maturity: Presbyterianism in Brazil from 1910 to 1959″ de Paul Everett Pierson (Trinity University Presss – San Antonio 1974). Em seu livro, Pierson relata que em 1957 a JMN já havia construído 27 templos presbiterianos.No começo, a JMN foi mantida pela Igreja Presbiteriana do Brasil, Missões de New York e Nashville – USA, mas gradualmente os presbiterianos brasileiros passaram a financiar todo o trabalho com ofertas missionárias. As campanhas de ofertas missionárias sempre contaram com a participação de toda a Igreja Presbiteriana do Brasil e isto pode ser comprovado pelo seguinte trecho do já citado Boletim da JMN de No 1, referente à campanha de 1945 “…Sim, soou a hora em que o nosso Mestre nos manda completar a ocupação de nossa Pátria para o seu Reino.”Ainda hoje todos nós somos responsáveis por incentivar e assegurar os recursos que levem adiante o trabalho missionário no Brasil. Vamos apoiar esta obra que não é de homens, mas de Deus. As campanhas permanentes da JMN fornecem a oportunidade para manifestarmos nosso amor por Missões.A JMN entra na “terceira idade” cheia de esperança e motivação; sua idade lhe traz experiência e faz crescer a visão de alcançar o povo brasileiro para Cristo.
